I really like all of the digital paintings. They really look like paint, which I know is hard to do. This one has a really nice sense of color tempereature and feel for the light. Are these done with a scanned sketch as the base, or are they done completely on your Wacom? I got a tablet back in May, but I don't find myself able to really just draw with it.
Thank you Kenton! Good to hear from you. Well, it totally depends. There are so many ways to start an image. Some people advocate a traditional start well over a digital. I think it's good to switch it up.
There are times I'm sketching where I can knock out an idea in less than a minute with acrylic paint that I might end up fussing over in digital. There are times digital is better.
The most important things are the big-picture-principles you have running behind your work regardless of media.
I had the same problem as you getting used to the Wacom. To break it in as a sketching tool, you do have to overcome the dexterity required to pull the same lines on such a glassy surface, with your image coming up in a different spot. It's completely working against you at first.
Anyway, the bread and butter of it is simply drawing, whichever way is most comfortable and enjoyable. Because traditional methods are more tactile, they're going to give your hand much more responsive feedback than digital (which will carry over when you do go digital). The Wacom might be something to put more focus on at a later date.
One other thing I will say is that you might try starting things less as a line drawing with your Wacom and more painterly, with big graphic shapes. Cut back and forth between dark and light values to design the shapes of figure and ground. Keep it simple at first, but for inspiration have a look at guys like Jaime Jones or Craig Mullins who are pretty much straight-up digital with a lot of their work but get some brilliant painterly results.
Excellent point Darcy. I use the Nexcare tape instead of moleskin, but I know that a lot of people prefer moleskin. I do have bodyglide in the bag I forgot to mention!
As far as clothes and http://www.toppowerlevel.net shoes. I use Brooks shoes, they are a good fit for me, but really it depends on the person. There are a couple of stores that will do measurements of pressure points on your feet and see what the best shoe, and if necessary arch support, is for you. I wear underarmour shorts with the wicking (sp?) and just a regular t-shirt.
This post is long overdue, but I wanted to still announce that I am officially over the $1000 mark thanks to a generous donation by Emily http://www.toppowerlevel.net and Eddy Evans! Thanks guys, we're making our way to the goal!
I really believe you will do much better in the future I appreciate everything you have added to my knowledge base.Admiring the time and effort you put into your blog and detailed information you offer!

This is something of a eulogy. I thought contacting its creator was the best way to let their lives end gracefully – in a full circle. They were unbelievable wholesale brand shoes, durable as all get-out and as stylish as Elvis on fire. It's time to let them go and move on to a new pair of cheap brand shoes.
